I created The Pivot Lab: Prepare to Be a UX Writer for experienced professionals who already see themselves in the role but feel stuck when it comes to mindset, positioning, or knowing where to focus first. This session bridges the gap between curiosity and confidence.
It’s designed to help you stop overthinking your pivot and start preparing in a way that actually works.

In this free, intro on-demand Pivot Lab session, I walk you through:
- What a real day in the life of a UX writer looks like
- What UX writing is and isn’t
- The mindset shift required for a successful career pivot
- How to identify and own your transferable skills
- How to stop second-guessing yourself and trust your direction
You’ll also hear live Q&A focused on shifting your mindset and conquering imposter syndrome, how to handle conflicting advice, and how to harness the energy that comes from the fear that often shows up right before meaningful change.
Resume strategy that actually matters
This session includes practical resume guidance from Ashley Cash, Executive Resume Writer and Interview & Salary Negotiation Coach.
Together, we cover:
- How to make the top third of your resume work for you
- How to strengthen your headline, summary, and key highlights
- How to research and surface the skills that matter most for UX writing roles
This is not about rewriting your entire resume. It is about positioning yourself clearly and confidently so hiring teams understand your value right away.
Who this is for
This session is for experienced professionals who are serious about pivoting into UX writing but want to prepare thoughtfully.
You may already know UX writing is a strong fit, but still struggle with imposter syndrome, self-doubt, or uncertainty about how to present your experience. You may be coming from journalism, marketing, education, customer support, data, or another strategic role and want guidance that respects the experience you already bring.
If you want to move forward without rushing or starting over, this session is for you.
Why preparation matters
Pivoting into UX writing can feel overwhelming until you understand what actually opens doors.
The truth is that confidence does not come from knowing everything. It comes from clearly owning what you already know and learning how to communicate it. Once that shift happens, the path forward becomes much clearer.
This session helps you make that shift.
My path into UX writing
I began my career as a journalist and later worked across fundraising, marketing, and e-commerce before discovering UX writing.
I pivoted into UX writing through a contract role at Etsy, where I was promoted to a full-time Senior UX Copywriter within three months. I went on to lead UX content initiatives across the buyer experience for more than two and a half years.
Later, I became the first UX content hire on a digital advisor experience team at a Fortune 500 financial services company, helping establish UX content standards and governance from the ground up.
Serving on hiring panels has also given me insight into what teams are truly looking for and how candidates can position themselves as the solution.
This session is the preparation I wish I had earlier in my own pivot.
What you’ll walk away with
After this session, you will:
- Feel clearer and more confident about your UX writing path
- Better understand how your skills already translate
- Know how to talk about your experience without minimizing it
- Have a focused plan for what to work on next
Most importantly, you will stop waiting for permission and start trusting yourself.
