Why UX writing is such a strong pivot
One of the biggest misconceptions about UX writing is that you need a tech background or years of direct product experience to break in.
The good news is that this simply isn’t the case.
UX writing is about clear thinking, problem-solving, and helping people move through digital experiences with confidence. Those skills already exist in many careers. The key is learning how to recognize and present them.
In this lesson, I share exactly how I reframed my own experience and how you can do the same.
My path into UX writing
I started my career as a newspaper journalist. Over the years, I worked across fundraising, marketing, and e-commerce before discovering UX writing.
My first UX writing role was a one-year contract at Etsy. Three months in, I was promoted to a full-time Senior UX Copywriter. I went on to lead key UX content initiatives across the buyer experience for more than two and a half years.
Later, I became the first UX content hire on a digital advisor experience team at a Fortune 500 financial services company, where I helped establish UX content foundations from the ground up.
This course is the support I wish I had when I made my own pivot into UX writing in 2021.
What you’ll walk away with
After this session, you will:
- Understand whether UX writing is a fit for you
- See how your current skills already translate
- Feel less behind and more capable
- Have a clearer sense of your next step
Most importantly, you’ll stop questioning whether this path is possible and start asking how you want to move forward.
